Sparsh Hospice is the temple of humanity. I salute them for their service: D Sridhar Babu, IT Minister, Govt of Telangana.

The Home Cancer Care is on the rise in the city: Jagadish Ramadugu, Trustee of Sparsh Hospice

City-based palliative care facility Sparsh Hospice goes Green. A fleet of three green cars (four wheelers) and three green bikes (two wheelers) worth Rs 51 lakhs donated by Jaguar Land Rover and Badruka Trust were commissioned by D. Sridhar Babu, Minister for IT, Govt of Telangana, on Tuesday at a function held at Sparsh Hospice Premises at Khajaguda in the city

Sparsh Hospice-Centre for Palliative Care is a project of Rotary Club of Banjara Hills Charitable Trust, which aims to extend free-of-cost palliative care services to terminally-ill patients through in-patient, out-patient and home-care services. It is India’s biggest palliative care facility. In its 15 years of service to humanity, it has served 12000 patients. Through inpatient and home care, it services 300 to 400 patients a day free of cost.

The 65000 sqft Sparsh Hospice services provided are free. The terminally ill cancer patients are taken care of well at Sparsh Hospice. It is an 82-bedded state-of-the-art facility. To run it needs Rs 50 lakh every month and Rs 6 crore per annum. All the funds required to run are donated by the various donors. The facility at Khajaguda was inaugurated in 2021. It was constructed at the cost of Rs 15 crore. The Government of Telangana granted 1.2 acre land for the same on lease.

Speaking on the occasion, D. Sridhar Babu said, there is no service like service to humanity. And salute to the Sparsh Hospice for their yeoman service. My nature is such that I am scared to see patients suffering. For that matter, I can’t see anyone suffering with any pain. The staff members of the Sparsh Hospice have been taking care of them as their family members, I bow my head and salute them for their service. Service to humanity is the best service in the world.

Also noteworthy about Sparsh Hospice, the Minister said is that they go to homes, spend two hours with the patients, counselling them, giving them moral support, suggesting medication and giving much needed relief. Which means they are serving them as inpatients, also as outpatients in the comfort of their respective homes. Sparsh Hospice is not less than a temple of humanity.

It is not easy to raise funds and run it uninterrupted for 15 years, and serve 12000 patients. Fundraising itself is the biggest challenge. It is a great gesture indeed. The government is also equally responsible, and you can bank on me for any support, the minister assured his full cooperation and support. The earlier government gave land for a good cause. I heard a lot about Sparsh Hospice in the past. Today I have got an opportunity to come and see their services. The palliative services are required in rural areas as well as in government hospitals, the minister felt.

The Minister also assured that their long-felt need to exempt Sparsh Hospice from the burden of the water bill was looked into and the needful would be done. Sparsh Hospice has also requested to waive off the property tax

Dr. Patlolla Sanjeev Reddy, MLA of Narayankhed, who accompanied the Minister while thanking Sparsh Hospice for their wonderful service, suggested that if Sparsh Hospice plans to go rural, I would like to welcome them. I will also extend a piece of land, if any is required, to set up an hospice.

K. Varaprasad Reddy, Member of the Governing Board of the Sparsh said kindness, compassion, care are such rare commodities which are not available in the marketplace. They are abundantly available with the care caregivers of Sparsh Hospice.

Giving his opening remarks, Dr M. Subrahmanyam, member of the Board of Trustees of Sparsh Hospice, said they have also commissioned a 100 KW Solar Installation. We spend Rs 50 lakh a month, donated by various donors, to run Sparsh Hospice. He appealed to people to become a “Guardian of Sparsh”. Even common people can now contribute Rs 500./- every month or multiples of Rs 500/- to ensure continuous support to run it smoothly. We look forward to support from 5000 people under this scheme contributing Rs 500/- each a month. And that will be a big financial help, said.

Jagadish Ramadugu, another member of the Board of Trustees of Sparsh Hospice said the Cancer Home Care is on the rise. Many found at-home care to be more comfortable, convenient, and personalized.
