Will Nara Lokesh Take Full Charge of TDP Leadership?

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is undergoing rapid transformations following its success in the 2024 elections. Nara Lokesh, the dynamic young leader of the party, has expressed his intent to reorganize the party’s apex decision-making body, the Polit Bureau. Lokesh’s vision includes bringing in new members and strengthening the leadership by placing key team members in strategic positions. With the growing prominence of alliance partner Pawan Kalyan in the coalition government, Lokesh is reportedly taking proactive measures to ensure TDP’s future stability and growth.
Currently, the Polit Bureau comprises 22 members whose recommendations and reviews play a vital role in decision-making. This tradition has been followed since the party’s inception. However, with nearly 80% of the existing members aged above 70, there is a growing consensus on the need to induct younger leaders into the bureau. Lokesh, advocating for a rejuvenated leadership, believes this is crucial for the party’s long-term prospects.
Senior leaders like Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju and Yanamala Ramakrishnudu have already stepped back from active politics, paving the way for their successors to take up significant roles. Many other senior members, due to advancing age, are also shifting focus away from day-to-day politics. Lokesh aims to bring in young and dedicated leaders who are willing to work tirelessly for the party’s growth and success.
Names of potential new Polit Bureau members, such as Ram Mohan Naidu, Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, Palla Srinivas Rao, Chintakayala Vijay, and Paritala Sriram, are reportedly under consideration. While Lokesh is keen on infusing fresh energy into the party, he also acknowledges the importance of retaining a few senior leaders for their experience and guidance.
Under Lokesh’s leadership, TDP’s strategy is clear: empower young leaders with vision and self-confidence to take on political challenges. The party cadre is hopeful that this transformation will rejuvenate TDP and help it regain its former glory. With the groundwork already laid, the demand among party workers to hand over the reins to Lokesh is growing stronger, signaling a new era for the TDP under his stewardship.
