PM Modi’s Big Business Vision: Indian Bank & Pharma Giants in Global Top 5
Addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a transformative three-pronged economic vision aimed at cementing India’s status as a global economic powerhouse. Setting ambitious benchmarks for domestic industry, the Prime Minister called for Indian enterprises to transition from regional players into dominant international powerhouses capable of competing with global giants. Key targets announced by the Prime Minister include:
– At least one Indian bank ranking among the world’s Top 5 banks.
– At least one Indian pharmaceutical company securing a spot in the global Top 5 pharma firms.
– Expanding Indian representation in the prestigious Fortune 500 list to 50 companies.
‘Shakti Ki Sapta Dhara’: A Roadmap for Value Chain Dominance
To propel the country toward a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) over the next five to seven years, PM Modi introduced ‘Shakti Ki Sapta Dhara’—a strategic roadmap spanning seven critical sectors: manufacturing, agriculture, technology, defense, and the green economy.
Highlighting the economic progress over the past 12 years—where electronics manufacturing expanded 7-fold, mobile phone production surged 33-fold, and defense production grew 4-fold—PM Modi asserted that India must move beyond simple product assembly. He urged the manufacturing sector to build full domestic value chains, from component design to complex finished goods, leveraging India’s Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) across 40 countries to emerge as a trusted global supply hub.
From Semiconductor Fabs to ‘Made-in-India 6G’
Digital and technological self-reliance formed a major pillar of the address. Underlining the strategic importance of semiconductors in the modern digital age, PM Modi revealed that following the setup of three initial units, India will establish 5 to 8 new semiconductor plants over the next 7 to 8 years.
Beyond expanding its digital public infrastructure globally, India is actively positioning itself to develop and export cutting-edge ‘Made-in-India 6G’ technology to global markets.
Clean Energy: Scaling Nuclear and Solar Power
To secure the reliable energy supply required for rapid industrialization, PM Modi emphasized a multi-pronged approach combining nuclear, solar, and natural gas infrastructure:
Nuclear Expansion: India is targeting 200 GW of nuclear power capacity, with five new nuclear reactors currently under construction. Breakthroughs in Fast Breeder Nuclear technology will further strengthen national energy sovereignty.
Clean Energy Reach: Piped natural gas has already reached 1.75 crore households, while rooftop solar installations now power more than 50 lakh households.
A Decisive Shift Toward Global Leadership
Reflecting on India’s macroeconomic trajectory, the Prime Minister noted that India has transformed from being categorized among the ‘Fragile Five’ economies in 2014 to becoming the world’s fastest-growing major economic force. PM Modi concluded that with a global mindset and bold policy execution, resource constraints will not deter the country from achieving unprecedented growth, driving the nation resolutely toward a self-reliant, developed India.
