Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah Draws Huge Crowds at FIA’s 44th Annual India Day Parade

NEW YORK, NY — The Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) hosted the 44th Annual India Day Parade on Sunday, August 16, drawing an estimated 200,000 spectators to Madison Avenue in Manhattan under the theme “Harmony in Heritage.” This year’s parade served as a dual tribute to India’s 80th Independence Day and the United States’ 250th anniversary.

New York State Governor Kathy Hochul led the procession along the route, joined by elected officials including New York State Senator Jeremy Cooney, Congressman Shri Thanedar, Assemblyman David Weprin, and candidate Sarita Komireddy.

Chief Guest and Bollywood actress Pooja Hegde, actor-director Adivi Sesh, and the cast of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah headlined the parade. The Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah float pulled massive crowds along Madison Avenue, featuring producer Asit Kumarr Modi alongside cast members Dilip Joshi, Mandar Chandwadkar, Munmun Dutta, Sonalika Joshi, Balvinder Singh Suri, and Nitish Bhaluni.

A total of 55 floats representing cultural organizations, businesses, and regional associations moved down Madison Avenue, accompanied by marching bands, dance troupes, and regional performers. The Consulate General of India in New York fielded its own float, while FIA organized an adjacent food festival, community booths on East 26th Street, and a live cultural stage program between East 26th and 25th Streets.

FIA Chairman Ankur Vaidya and FIA President Sreekanth Akkapalli welcomed dignitaries and coordinated the festivities.
