As a member of the acclaimed ensemble Shakti, he shared in the group’s Grammy Award for Best Global Music Album for This Moment, further cementing his reputation as one of the leading innovators in contemporary world music.

At the heart of Whispers of the Soul lies a remarkable personal story. According to Selvaganesh, the project began after a dream involving his late friend Rishi Shah, who urged him to create music using poetry connected to his family. What initially appeared to be a simple message gradually evolved into a profound artistic collaboration that united poetry, family history, and music. Through conversations with New York physician and poetry enthusiast Dr. Shashi Shekhar Shah, Selvaganesh discovered the works of Shah’s brother, the noted poet and author Pramod Shah ‘Nafees’. That discovery became the foundation of the album’s artistic vision.

The first single, Unki Muhabbat, is a reflective exploration of love, longing, and devotion. Written by Pramod Shah ‘Nafees’ and brought to life through spoken narration and vocals, the composition moves beyond traditional romantic expression to contemplate deeper spiritual questions. The song suggests that true understanding can emerge through surrender, introspection, and self-discovery. Featuring the vocals of acclaimed Hindustani classical singer Anirudh Srinivasraghavan, the piece blends poetry and melody in a manner that keeps the emotional power of the words at its center.
