Irumudi’s US Buzz Gives Ravi Teja Hope — But Can It Translate Into a Hit?
After nearly four years, Ravi Teja’s new film Irumudi is showing strong early buzz in the US. North America pre-sales have already crossed $225K, giving his fans fresh hope for a strong comeback.
The film is also getting a good response in the Telugu states. Trade sources say more than one lakh tickets have already been sold across BookMyShow and District. BookMyShow sales have crossed 72,000, while District has sold more than 38,000 tickets.
The interesting part is that the advance bookings are moving strongly both in India and overseas. This has increased expectations for the film’s opening day.
For Ravi Teja, this is especially important. His overseas market has never been his biggest strength. So, when a Ravi Teja film starts getting strong advance bookings in the US even before its release, the number becomes more than just a box-office figure.
It raises a bigger question:
Is Ravi Teja finally getting the comeback he has been waiting for?
Why Is Irumudi Getting Attention in the US?
Ravi Teja has not always had a strong overseas market. Most of his films needed good word of mouth to grow in the US.
But Irumudi is showing interest before release itself.
The film is directed by Shiva Nirvana and is said to combine action, mystery, thriller elements, family emotions, a father-daughter relationship and a devotional backdrop.
That combination could work well with Telugu families in the US.
For many NRI audiences, a film is not only about the hero. They also look at whether the story has strong emotions, whether it can be watched with family and whether the film offers a good overall experience.
That could be one reason behind the early interest in Irumudi.
The promotional campaign has also helped. The song Mallepoola Pallaki received a good response, while Ravi Teja’s look and screen presence in the teaser and trailer have created positive talk among fans.
Mythri Movie Makers is producing the film, with GV Prakash Kumar providing the music. Baby Nakshatra and Priya Bhavani Shankar are also playing important roles.
$225K Is Only the Beginning
Strong pre-sales do not guarantee a hit.
The real test starts after the first show. If the film gets positive word of mouth, the collections can grow quickly. If the response is mixed, the same advance bookings may not mean much after the opening weekend.
But in Ravi Teja’s current situation, the $225K number has another importance.
It shows that people are willing to book tickets for his film before hearing the final word from the audience.
That itself is a positive sign.
How Much Does Irumudi Need in the US?
According to trade estimates, the overseas rights of Irumudi are valued at around ₹4 crore.
Based on these estimates, the film may need around $1 million in North America to reach the break-even level.
So, the current $225K pre-sales is not the finish line.
It is only the first step.
The big question now is whether the strong advance bookings can turn into a strong opening and then continue through positive word of mouth.
Ravi Teja’s Four-Year Wait
Ravi Teja’s last major theatrical success was Dhamaka, released in 2022.
Since then, his films have not managed to reach the same level of success. That makes Irumudi more important than just another release.
It is now being seen as a comeback test for the Mass Maharaja.
The film has a reported worldwide theatrical business of around ₹20 crore. Trade estimates suggest that it may need around ₹45 crore gross worldwide to enter the safe zone.
That is not an impossible target for Ravi Teja.
But the film needs more than a good first day.
It needs strong content to keep the audience coming back after the opening.
The First Knot Has Been Tied in the US
For the comeback Ravi Teja has been waiting for, the first positive signal has come from an interesting place — the US market.
The $225K pre-sales show that the audience is curious.
Now the film has to prove that this curiosity can turn into a real box-office success.
If Irumudi connects with the audience, this could be more than just another hit for Ravi Teja.
It could be the film that brings his market and confidence back on track.
The first knot has been tied in the US. Whether Irumudi can turn that knot into a hit will be known after August 21.
