Is Rajamouli’s Varanasi story leaked? A mysterious asteroid, a global hunt and a hidden ancient secret

SS Rajamouli’s much-awaited Varanasi, starring Mahesh Babu, is already one of the biggest Indian films in production. The film has been planned on a global scale, and every new detail about it has been creating huge curiosity among movie fans.

Now, a synopsis describing the film’s story has surfaced online. On its own, a story appearing on an unknown website may not mean much. But this time, the details have attracted attention because they reportedly appeared on the website of SkyBlue Cinematics, which is associated with the film as an official brand partner.

That has made the synopsis a talking point among fans. But there is an important catch: the makers have not officially confirmed that this is the final story of Varanasi.

What does the viral synopsis say?

According to the synopsis, the story is set in 2027, when a massive asteroid named Shambhavi is heading towards the holy city of Varanasi. The asteroid becomes a threat not just to the city, but potentially to the entire world.

This is where Mahesh Babu’s character Rudhra enters the story.

Rudhra is described as a rugged archaeologist and explorer who is brought into a high-stakes mission to find an ancient cosmic artefact. The mysterious object is believed to hold the key to stopping the coming disaster.

But Rudhra is not on this mission alone.

He is joined by Mandakini, played by Priyanka Chopra. She is described as a fierce historian and a skilled marksman. Together, they begin a journey that takes them far beyond India.

The adventure reportedly moves through the jungles of Africa, the icy landscape of Antarctica and different parts of Europe, with another powerful character constantly chasing them.

That character is Kumbha, played by Prithviraj Sukumaran.

And this is where the story gets particularly interesting.

The synopsis describes Kumbha as a tech genius. That gives the conflict between Rudhra and Kumbha a different dimension.

In simple terms, the film seems to bring together two very different worlds — ancient knowledge and advanced technology.

And right in the middle of that conflict is an asteroid that could change the fate of the world.

That could be the central conflict of Varanasi.

But the story is much bigger than Varanasi

Rajamouli has already revealed that the film will travel across several parts of the world and different periods of history.

The journey reportedly moves from Varanasi to Antarctica and Africa, and eventually goes back in time to Ancient Rome before returning to Varanasi.

That means the film is not being designed as a straightforward action adventure. It appears to combine history, mythology, science fiction, technology and a global survival story.

This also explains why the film has been planned on such a massive scale.

The biggest question, however, is about the mysterious cosmic artefact.

Is it really the key to saving the world?

Or is there something much bigger hidden behind it?

If the synopsis is accurate, the asteroid may only be the beginning of the story. It could be the event that brings an ancient mystery back into the modern world.

And that could make the conflict between Rudhra and Kumbha much bigger than a simple hero-versus-villain battle.

One represents the search for answers in the ancient world. The other appears to have the technology to control those secrets.

The synopsis currently doing the rounds has not been officially released by Rajamouli or the production house. The details have emerged from information reportedly available on the website of an international branding partner associated with the film.

So, until the makers officially confirm these details, the synopsis should be treated as unconfirmed information rather than the complete official story.

Rajamouli has already confirmed several elements about the film’s scale, though. He has spoken about the story travelling across continents and time periods, including Antarctica, Africa and Ancient Rome. Reports have also stated that a major portion of the film has already been completed.

A global spectacle in the making

Varanasi is being mounted as a massive international-scale production, with a reported budget of around ₹1,300 crore.

The film also brings together Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra on a global adventure, with Prithviraj Sukumaran playing a key antagonist.

MM Keeravani is composing the music, adding another familiar name from Rajamouli’s previous blockbusters to the project.

With Baahubali and RRR, Rajamouli has already shown that Indian stories can travel far beyond the domestic market. With Varanasi, he appears to be attempting something even larger — a story that connects Indian mythology and history with a modern global adventure.

Whether the leaked synopsis is completely accurate or only reveals a part of the actual story, one thing is already clear.

Varanasi is being built as much more than another big-budget Indian action film.

And if the asteroid, the ancient artefact, the global chase and the Rudhra–Kumbha conflict are indeed part of the final film, Rajamouli may have another world of his own waiting to be revealed.
