When we think of Sai Kumar, the iconic “4 Simhalu” dialogue instantly comes to mind. With the film Police Story, Sai Kumar left an indelible mark on Indian cinema history. Born on July 27, 1961, Sai Kumar inherited the legacy of acting from his parents, P.J. Sharma and Krishna Jyothi. His mother, Krishna Jyothi, was a renowned actress in the Kannada film industry, making Kannada his mother tongue. However, Sai Kumar made his own distinct mark in the South Indian film industry.

Before entering films, on October 20, 1972, Sai Kumar first wore make-up for a role as Duryodhana in a play called Mayasabha. He never looked back after that. Starting his film career as a child artist, Sai Kumar made his debut in 1975 with Devudu Chesina Kalyanam, which was released on January 9, 1975. This marks Golden Jubilee (50 years) in his career today.

Sai Kumar earned recognition as a great actor with the movie Sneham, directed by Bapu. Throughout his career, Sai Kumar has delivered many unforgettable hit films. He has acted in numerous evergreen films in both Kannada and Telugu. In Kannada, after Police Story, films like Agni IPS, Kumkum Bhagya, Police Story 2, Lock Up Death, Circle Inspector, Central Jail, and Mane Mane Ramayana were massive box-office hits.

In Telugu, films like Amma Rajinama, Karthavyam, Anthapuram, Eeswar Allah, Jagadguru Adi Shankara, Yevadu, Pataas, Pandaga Chesko, Bhale Manchi Roju, Sarainodu, Supreme, Chuttalabbayi, Janatha Garage, Manalo Okadu, Om Namo Venkatesaya, Jai Lava Kusa, Raja The Great, Naa Peru Surya Naa Illu India, Maharshi, SR Kalyana Mandapam, Dasara, and Sir among others, have earned him widespread acclaim.

In 2006, he won the Nandi Award for Best Villain for his role in Samanyudu. In 2010, he earned the Nandi Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Prasthanam. He also won Filmfare Awards for his acting in Samanyudu, Prasthanam, and Rang Tarang. For Prasthanam, he received the TSR-TV9 Award.

Beyond the silver screen, Sai Kumar also impressed audiences with his dynamic presence on television, particularly with the game show Wow, where he became a sensation. These days, whenever Sai Kumar is part of a film, it is almost guaranteed to be a blockbuster. Films like Committee Kurralloo, Saripodaa Sanivaaram, and Lucky Baskhar, in which he acted last year, became major hits. Sai Kumar is now widely regarded as the “Lucky Hand” of the industry, and he remains one of the most in-demand artists. Despite completing 50 years as an actor, Sai Kumar continues to be part of numerous high-profile projects, keeping him as one of the busiest figures in the industry.

His son, Aadi Sai Kumar is also rapidly making his mark, taking on numerous projects. We hope that Sai Kumar continues to entertain audiences with many more films and remarkable roles in the future.
