Baahubali 3 Unlikely for Now; Rajamouli’s Plans Appear to Be Different
Whenever acclaimed filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli is in the spotlight, speculation about his next project inevitably follows. In recent weeks, social media has been buzzing with rumors that the director could take up either Baahubali 3 or RRR 2 after completing his ongoing film Varanasi. However, industry sources suggest that neither sequel is likely to go on floors in the near future.
According to trade circles, Rajamouli has always shown a stronger inclination toward creating entirely new cinematic worlds rather than revisiting his previous blockbusters. A look at his filmography reflects his preference for exploring fresh stories instead of relying on sequels.
Earlier, there were also discussions about Eega 2, but that project never materialized despite being mentioned on several occasions. Similarly, while Baahubali 3 and RRR 2 continue to generate excitement among fans, there have been no concrete indications that either film is currently in active development.
Instead, industry insiders believe Rajamouli is more likely to focus on his long-cherished dream project, Mahabharata, once he completes his current commitments. The epic adaptation has been on the filmmaker’s wishlist for years and is widely expected to be one of the biggest projects of his career.
That said, the Baahubali franchise is not expected to be shelved entirely. Sources indicate that there are plans to expand the brand through animation and other storytelling formats, ensuring the franchise remains relevant and continues to engage audiences. This is also believed to be one of the reasons why discussions around the Baahubali universe surface from time to time.
As of now, however, industry buzz strongly suggests that a live-action Baahubali 3 is not part of Rajamouli’s immediate roadmap. While fans continue to hope for another chapter in the blockbuster franchise, there is currently no official indication that the sequel is being planned.
