Akhil Akkineni Reveals Shocking Injury Behind His Break After Agent
After the disastrous box office performance of Agent, Akhil Akkineni stayed away from the big screen for nearly three years, leaving fans wondering about the reason behind the long gap. While many assumed it was purely due to script selection and career planning, the actor has now revealed that a serious hand injury also played a major role in delaying his comeback.
Speaking during the promotions of his upcoming film Lenin, Akhil disclosed that he suffered a major accident around four months after the release of Agent. The incident, which had remained undisclosed until now, forced him to take a lengthy break from work and recovery.
According to Akhil, he slipped on a wet bathroom floor and fell onto broken glass, resulting in a severe injury to his left hand. The accident damaged the nerves and blood vessels in his middle and ring fingers, requiring two microsurgeries. He revealed that doctors had to place 48 stitches on his hand, and for nearly seven to eight months, he was unable to even lift weights.
The actor further shared that it took him nearly 16 months to regain full functionality of his hand. Apologizing to fans for making them wait so long, Akhil said that while part of the gap was due to his own career decisions, the unexpected injury was equally responsible for the prolonged absence.
Akhil is now set to make his comeback with Lenin, which is scheduled for a theatrical release on July 10. Directed by Murali Kishor Abburu, the film is jointly produced by Nagarjuna Akkineni and S. Naga Vamsi. Bhagyashri Borse plays the female lead, and the makers are hoping the film will mark a fresh beginning for the actor after a challenging phase in his career.
