Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey Celebrates Historic India Premiere as Part of Global Event Tour

To celebrate the global theatrical debut of his new mythic action epic, The Odyssey, Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Christopher Nolan arrived in Mumbai on July 10, accompanied by film stars Academy Award® winner Matt Damon and BAFTA winner Tom Holland, and by Academy Award®-winning producer Emma Thomas.

Marking Christopher Nolan’s first-ever film premiere in India, Mumbai was designated as an official stop on The Odyssey‘s global promotional tour, underscoring India’s growing importance as a key theatrical market. The film, the first in history to be shot entirely with IMAX® film cameras, arrives in cinemas worldwide July 17.

The India celebrations commenced with an exclusive fan screening at PVR ICON IMAX®: Phoenix Palladium, Mumbai, where Christopher Nolan and the film’s cast surprised audiences with an unannounced appearance. The event marked the only fan screening globally during The Odyssey‘s promotional tour where the filmmakers and cast greeted fans in person, creating an unforgettable cinematic moment for Indian audiences.

Earlier today, Christopher Nolan, Matt Damon, Tom Holland, and Emma Thomas addressed members of the media, sharing insights into the making of The Odyssey, the film’s groundbreaking production, and the experience of bringing the film to India as part of its global journey.

The India visit will culminate later this evening with the film’s exclusive Red-Carpet Premiere, where the filmmakers and cast will be joined by leading members of the Indian film fraternity for a celebration of the biggest cinematic event of the year.

The film stars Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Academy Award® winner Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Academy Award® winner Lupita Nyong’o, Academy Award® nominee Samantha Morton, Emmy and Golden Globe winner Zendaya and Academy Award® winner Charlize Theron. Based on Homer’s foundational saga, The Odyssey, released by Universal Pictures, is written for the screen and directed by Christopher Nolan, and is produced by Emma Thomas and Christopher Nolan for their company, Syncopy.

The film’s India premiere marks one of the most significant Hollywood film events ever staged in the country, bringing together filmmakers, fans, and the Indian film fraternity in celebration of the theatrical experience.
