AZAD Engineering Inaugurates Dedicated Lean Manufacturing Facility for Baker Hughes
HYDERABAD: In a significant move that reinforces India’s position as a global hub for high-precision engineering, Azad Engineering has officially inaugurated a state-of-the-art, 7,600 sq. m. dedicated lean manufacturing facility. Located at the company’s Centre of Excellence in Tunikibollaram, Hyderabad, this next-generation site is specifically designed to support the growing global requirements of energy technology leader, Baker Hughes.
A Strategic Evolution in Precision Manufacturing:
What began in 2018 as a technical engagement for the supply of critical rotating airfoils has transformed into a deep, strategic collaboration. Over the last eight years, Azad Engineering has successfully navigated the rigorous qualification pathways required by Baker Hughes, achieving excellence in raw material qualification, complex process validation, and the development of a certified sub-tier ecosystem.
The new facility is a testament to Azad’s ability to meet “micron-level” precision benchmarks consistently and at scale. It is now a vital node in the Baker Hughes Industrial & Energy Technology (IET) and Oilfield Services and Equipment programs.
Facility Highlights at a Glance:
- Infrastructure: 7,600 sq. m. of advanced lean manufacturing space.
- Workforce: Approximately 230 highly skilled professionals.
- Capabilities: Engineered for high-precision, high-volume production with fully integrated special process capabilities.
- Integration: Seamlessly connected with Azad’s existing COE & Innovation Centre ecosystem.
Leadership Perspectives:
Mr. Rakesh Chopdar, Chairman and CEO of Azad Engineering, described the inauguration as a “defining milestone.”
“This facility is part of our deliberate strategy to build a world-class manufacturing ecosystem exclusively for Baker Hughes. It is a statement of confidence in India’s manufacturing future and our commitment to being at its forefront.”
Representing the government, Shri. D. Sridhar Babu, Hon’ble Minister for Industries & IT, Government of Telangana, lauded the partnership as a blueprint for global collaboration. He noted that Telangana’s precision engineering sector has seen a 30% year-on-year growth, with the state becoming a preferred destination for global OEMs like Boeing, GE Aviation, and Lockheed Martin.
Mr. Davide Marrani, Vice President of IET Operations at Baker Hughes, emphasized the importance of the expansion for their global strategy:
“Azad Engineering’s new facility strengthens our global supply chain and supports our long-term growth. Collaborations like this are essential to building a resilient and competitive global network.”
Driving the “Make in India” Vision:
This launch marks Azad Engineering’s fourth dedicated facility, underscoring an aggressive capacity build-out to meet surging demand in the Aerospace, Defense, and Energy sectors. By combining vertical integration with disciplined execution, Azad Engineering is no longer just a participant in the global manufacturing landscape—it is actively shaping the future of precision engineering.
