Axis Bank and GoSports Foundation Launch ‘The Performance Institute’ in Bengaluru
Axis Bank has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the GoSports Foundation to launch the Axis Bank-GoSports Foundation ‘The Performance Institute’ (AGTPI). Located at the state-of-the-art Centre for Sports Excellence (CSE) in Bengaluru, this first-of-its-kind initiative is designed to scale India’s sports science capabilities and foster research and innovation for the long-term growth of the national sporting ecosystem.
Strategic Collaboration and Objectives:
As the founding partner, Axis Bank will provide CSR grants to support the establishment and growth of the institute, while the GoSports Foundation will oversee administration, program implementation, and strategic partnerships. The institute aims to address the reliance on foreign performance data, which may not always align with the specific needs of Indian athletes, by building a robust domestic sports science ecosystem.
Core Pillars of AGTPI:
The institute is structured around three primary pillars:
People: This pillar focuses on workforce development by providing training programs, fellowships, mentorship opportunities, and professional development pathways to create a pool of qualified practitioners for federations and academies.
Analytics: The institute will host an athlete testing and assessment facility that provides biomechanics analysis, performance testing, injury-risk assessment, recovery monitoring, and data-driven performance planning. It will also focus on developing India-specific athlete performance databases across various sports and demographics.
Research: This pillar aims to generate indigenous sports science knowledge through applied research, industry and university collaborations, and innovation. Its goal is to develop evidence-based solutions that support athletes and contribute to the broader advancement of the field in India.
Building a Future for Indian Sports:
The collaboration brings together institutional support and expertise to construct a lasting impact on athlete development and performance excellence. Leaders from the partnering organizations emphasized that sustained sporting success requires not only talent but also a strong foundation of knowledge, innovation, and dedicated sports science infrastructure. By integrating these world-class capabilities at the Centre for Sports Excellence, AGTPI seeks to unlock India’s sporting potential from the grassroots level to the podium.
