Fake Propaganda by Pakistani Social Media Accounts: 480 Accounts Blocked

In the backdrop of the ongoing CJP protests, Delhi Police have accused over 480 Pakistani social media accounts of spreading fake propaganda. They stated that attempts were being made to provoke students through these accounts by disseminating rumors, fake posts, and edited videos.

In this context, Delhi Police announced that they have identified and blocked 480 Pakistani social media handles spreading misinformation. They appealed to students and the public to remain vigilant, rely only on official sources for information, and refrain from sharing unverified content on social media.

Police noted that they observed the spread of misinformation on social media and that hundreds of Pakistan-operated accounts were running a coordinated campaign to spread false narratives around the protest. “We have noticed misinformation being circulated on social media. So far, we have identified over 480 Pakistani social media accounts exploiting the situation to spread misinformation and rumors. We are blocking these accounts,” police said.

Delhi Police further alleged that many of the identified handles were also active during ‘Operation Sindoor’, and the same network is currently attempting to influence public debate regarding the ongoing protests. Delhi Police appealed to students and youth not to fall prey to misinformation propagated by unknown or foreign social media accounts.

Police advised the public to verify the authenticity of posts before sharing them, rely solely on official sources for updates, and avoid spreading rumors, edited videos, or provocative content without verification.
