L&T Inks MoU with TuTr Hyperloop to Develop Next-Generation Mobility Infrastructure in India
Engineering major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with TuTr Hyperloop Private Ltd, an IIT Madras-incubated deep-tech mobility startup. The partnership establishes a formal framework to jointly explore and develop next-generation mobility technologies and infrastructure across India. The collaboration brings together L&T’s extensive engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) capabilities with TuTr Hyperloop’s expertise in indigenous electromagnetic propulsion and advanced transportation systems, with specific projects to be governed by separate future agreements.
Technological Domains and Infrastructure Focus:
The partnership evaluates opportunities across a comprehensive spectrum of futuristic transportation and logistics infrastructure, including:
Core Propulsion & Vacuum Systems: Linear Induction Motor (LIM) based propulsion systems, specialized vacuum tube infrastructure, and advanced pressure management systems.
Civil and Electrical Works: Heavy civil and structural engineering, power electrical infrastructure, specialized signaling, and telecommunications.
System Integration & Applications: Comprehensive end-to-end systems integration spanning manufacturing, installation, testing, and commercial applications across high-speed passenger transit, freight logistics, port connectivity, and industrial transport.
Leadership Perspectives on Indigenous Deep-Tech Innovation:
Highlighting the significance of the partnership, Mr. S V Desai, Whole-Time Director & Senior Executive Vice President – Infrastructure at L&T, stated: “Hyperloop represents an exciting frontier in next-generation mobility, with the potential to redefine the movement of people and goods… Our partnership with TuTr Hyperloop is a step in that direction.”
Adding his perspective from academia, Prof. Satya Chakravarthy of IIT Madras noted: “The transition of advanced mobility technologies from research and development to real-world deployment requires strong collaboration between academia, technology developers and industry… It is an encouraging step towards translating indigenous innovation into practical, deployable solutions for India.”
Dr. Aravind S Bharadwaj, Co-Founder and CEO of TuTr Hyperloop, concluded: “At TuTr Hyperloop, our focus is on developing indigenous mobility technologies that can address real-world transportation and logistics challenges. Our collaboration with L&T brings together our capabilities… with L&T’s extensive engineering and infrastructure execution expertise.”
