AI-Led Shopping and Premium Upgrades Drive Record Growth for Amazon India’s Great Summer Sale 2026
BENGALURU: Amazon India has reported a massive surge in customer demand during its marquee Great Summer Sale 2026, delivering a strong double-digit year-on-year (YoY) growth. Driven by an intense summer heatwave and a rapidly growing appetite for premium, AI-enabled products, the shopping event showcased a major shift in how Indian consumers discover and buy products online. Tech-savvy cities led the charge, with Bengaluru emerging as the top-performing market, closely followed by Hyderabad and Delhi.
AI Features and Prime Perks Take Center Stage:
This year’s sale highlighted a massive consumer shift toward intelligent shopping. Buyers increasingly relied on Amazon’s built-in AI tools—including the Rufus shopping assistant, Lens AI visual search, AI Review Highlights, and curated Buying Guides—to make informed purchase decisions.
Prime members also enjoyed significant exclusive perks, unlocking an extra 5% savings on a massive catalog of over 2 lakh products, alongside additional cashbacks of up to INR 250 and widespread same-day delivery. Affordability was a massive driver across the board, backed by flexible options like no-cost EMI, exchange offers, and the convenience of Amazon Pay, which was utilized in nearly one in three orders.
The Rise of “Bharat”: Premiumization Hits Tier 2 and 3 Cities:
One of the most notable trends of the 2026 sale was the accelerating demand for high-end products across smaller urban centers. Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities recorded a stunning 1.7X YoY growth in the premium appliance sector, with places like Chandigarh, Coimbatore, Saharanpur, and Thane registering an overall 1.2X increase in volume.
Consumers across India showed a distinct eagerness to trade up:
Smartphones: Premium smartphones priced above INR 30,000 witnessed a roaring 2.1X YoY growth by value, dominated by flagship and AI-integrated devices from Apple, Samsung, and OnePlus.
Large Appliances: Smart, energy-efficient, and AI-enabled home appliances grew by 1.3X YoY. These advanced models made up 1.8X of the total premium demand, as shoppers looked for smart-connected washing machines, refrigerators, and air conditioners from trusted brands like LG, Haier, Panasonic, and Godrej.
Fashion & Lifestyle: Aspirational shopping reached new heights with top-tier lifestyle brands like Nike, Titan Raga, PNG Jewellers, and Samsonite seeing massive traction.
Beating the Heat: Summer Essentials and Wellness Spike:
Unsurprisingly, intense summer temperatures triggered massive demand for cooling and hydration products. While air conditioners, coolers, and cold beverages flew off virtual shelves, the broader fashion and beauty segments stole the show. Fashion and lifestyle items registered a 1.6X YoY growth, led by breezy cotton co-ords, lightweight dresses, and kurtas. Meanwhile, beauty and personal care surged by an incredible 2.5X YoY, fueled by high demand for sunscreens, SPF-infused skincare, and tinted moisturizers.
Concurrently, health and wellness took center stage. Home fitness and cardio equipment grew by 1.3X and 1.8X YoY respectively. Consumers also prioritized clean-label nutrition, stocking up on protein supplements, electrolyte drinks, and healthy cookware alternatives.
Even with the premium boom, budget-conscious buyers found plenty of options. Ultra-affordable, trend-forward collections in fashion, home, and kitchen allowed millions to refresh their spaces and wardrobes without breaking the bank. Alongside product retail, travel bookings on the platform also experienced a major lift, jumping 1.4X compared to the previous year, capping off a highly successful seasonal event for the e-commerce giant.
